Ruth Breen artwork Profile
Lockdown was a turning point for me as an artist as I was able to get out walking more and started to notice nature was changing due to less traffic around and better air quality. I had been taking photos when out walking and started to focus on the flowers.
This is when I feel I really started to produce floral artwork paintings in my own style, that I liked and other people seemed to like as well. Up to this point I had known I could draw, but the colours I see in nature I was not capturing.
I have found I engage with acrylic paints as they can produce the bright colours I see in nature, particularly flowers which are my main inspiration. My work has been described as arts and crafts, mixed with pop art and impression.
I have been told my paintings make people smile, which is a wonderful reaction to get from your artwork.
I recently decided to challenge myself as an artists and this led to animal pop art style paintings. It was good to see I am able to produce these types of paintings and it has helped me in my floral artwork as I am now painting more complex flowers and in some I am including animals like bees and butterflies.
I see my progression would be to do larger paintings, I have only been able to do two such paintings and both are some of my best work. I feel this is because it really challenges me as an artists. I have already seen in my mind my next large painting and I know eventually I will have to paint it as the painting will just overwhelm me into it been painted.
